The telephone number porting process moves a telephone number from the losing carrier to AVATAVA. Most carriers will comply with the request in a timely manner, but there are outliers who may employ delaying tactics in an effort to retain a customer.
Steps to successfully port a number:
- Download the AVATAVA Letter of Agency (LOA). Download the LOA here.
- Complete the AVATAVA LOA in full, matching the information on the form with your Customer Service Record (CSR). If you are not sure of the information on the old carrier’s CSR, you should request a copy of your CSR before submitting the port request. Often the information to do this may be found with a quick search on “old-carrier CSR” in a search engine. Any mismatch on the service street addresses or name on the account- even as simple as abbreviations or suffixes, may cause a rejection of a port request and a delay in the process as it is corrected and resubmitted.
- Provide a copy of your last customer invoice from your present telephone provider.
- Submit a scanned copy of the LOA and a copy of your last bill to your sales contact at AVATAVA. Once submitted, the LOA is typically acted on within 8 business hours. For ports where all information is correct and complete, we should typically supply a Firm Order Commitment (FOC) date within three to five business days.
- Rejections: If the port is rejected, we will update you in the ticket we create at the start of the process. Often the rejections are the result of a data mismatch and may require you to gather more information in order for us to resubmit. Tickets will not be updated unless we have a FOC or Rejection. Once we have a FOC, the telephone numbers will be added to the switch for configuration and provisioning of users.
- Once the FOC date is reached and the port completes, the support ticket will be updated and the port request will be closed.
Do not cancel service with the losing carrier until the port is successfully completed. Canceling your account with your old provider prior to the completion of the process may make the port impossible to complete.
