What is a domain alias and how do I add or remove a domain alias?

A domain alias is a domain which you own, but which doesn't have it's own website or unique content. For example, you may have a dot com as your main website, but also have registered a .net and .org version of the same name. Your website may have multiple names as aliases to the main domain name.

Creating a Domain Name Alias

To add a domain name alias on cPanel based hosting, from the hosting control panel:

  1. click on "Login to cPanel"
  2. In cPanel under "Domains" click "aliases"
  3. Enter the alias domain in the box and click "Add Domain"
  4. Click "go back" when it is done and you should see the alias listed.
  5. That should be it. Note that the domain name should already be registered with DNS pointing at our servers prior to adding the alias.

To remove a domain alias simply click on the "remove" link in the list. Note that you can also manage domain redirection from this list as well.
