POTS Plain Old Telephone Service

Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) is a retronym (an acronym for something that already existed to differentiate it from something newer, like VOIP) for the telephone service originally offered by the Bell Telephone System using analog signal transmission over copper loops. POTS is the traditional landline telephone service offered from the 1880's to today.
