My Domain has Expired, what can I do?

My Domain has Expired, what can I do?

If your domain has expired, please contact AVATAVA as soon as possible to renew it. Most domains have a 40 day grace period following expiration, but this will depend on the Registry policy for the domain.

The Deletion Cycle for expired domains range from 36 to as many as 80 days. Here are the stages and statuses:

  1. EXPIRED: A domain name which is expired may remain in the "Expired" status from 1 to as many as a maximum of 45 days. For most Registrars allow domains in the Expired status from 28 to 45 days. A domain name in the EXPIRED status may still be renewed quickly and inexpensively for the cost of a one year registration.
  2. REDEMPTION PERIOD or PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE: After the EXPIRED status a domain falls into the REDEMPTION PERIOD for 30 days. This period is ICANN mandated and cannot be shortened. Once a domain name falls into REDEMPTION it becomes more expensive to retrieve and renew. Expect a minimum "Fair Market Value" of 200 US Dollars for redemption cost which may require as much as a week to recover a domain name which is in REDEMPTION.

Note: A domain in REDEMPTION may only be redeemed by the owner registered at the time of expiry. If you are the previous registrant, please contact AVATAVA to determine the cost for repurchasing the domain. If you are looking to buy a domain which is currently in this state and are not the previous owner, please contact AVATAVA so we can tell you when the domain should be available for purchase. Also note the current registrar generally reserves the right not to sell the domain name at any price.
  3. PENDING DELETE: After REDEMPTION PERIOD the domain enters into PENDING DELETE status and cannot be renewed or redeemed. Domain names generally are PENDING DELETE for 5 days. After five days the domain name will be released to the public and anyone can register the name. You may be able to wait and register it upon release. Please contact AVATAVA if you would like to place a "backorder" for an expired domain.

How do I prevent my domain from expiring?

To prevent expiry of your domain, turn on Automatic Renewal in the AVATAVA control panel and make sure the credit card on file remains up to date. When you enable Automatic Renewal your domain name should be renewed automatically within 30 days of the expiration date.
